Veteran subbing, year 2

OK. So maybe the veteran piece is a bit of over reaching but technically it's true. How about sophomore subbing? Now that I'm known in some schools, can I sit back and wait for calls?

My guts tell me H*** NO! While I'd like to do nothing better than to hang out, read books, and get massages all day long, an Energizer Bunny Ancestor passed on the very annoying gene that is pushing me to do a little bit more.

1. Review business card and stationery design - I developed and taught a series Chinese Painting classes last year. Perhaps I should use a sample painting for my image to differentiate it from all those other cards with books or apple images. It would be a nice conversation point as well.

2. To let the teachers and schools know I'm still in the market, I should go to all the schools before they open (when they are killer busy) and drop off my card for the secretaries and teachers I've subbed for last year.

Any other ideas for sophomore subs? All contructive comments welcomed.

  1. That's such a great idea about incorporating the Chinese Paintings into your logo! I don't know how expensive those brushes are, or if you could use any paintbrushes, but what if you used paintbrushes as your "card" and printed your information on a label to stick on it? Then all of your information can label that paintbrush... it'll be in handy reach for the teacher in her/his pencil or pen cup on the desk. (A friend of mine is great at thinking outside-the-box when it comes to business cards!)

One other thing... a friend of mine sent an e-mail out to all of the teachers she knew and had subbed for at the beginning of the year saying she was available to sub again. Then she sent out reminder greetings in our teacher boxes a couple of times throughout the year that she was available to support us. She kept her name and the idea of her being a present resource alive.

    Best wishes! :)

  2. Thanks. I saw your comment about e-mailing to teachers and did it!

  3. That e-mail I sent prior to school start netted me a job the third day of school!
